You might wonder what you have to do before getting to law school. There isn't much you can do before law school however there are a few things you can do. In undergrad the major you pick doesn't matter when going to law school. Their are various types of majors that were taken during undergraduate studies. If you do want some type of background or foundation before law school then pursuing a degree in political science, government, pre-law, and criminal justice would prove beneficial. If the college you go to has any type of pre-law organization you should definitely join because it will provide you good information on the whole ordeal of law school and practicing it afterward. Another thing you could is to go intern at a law firm or courthouse to figure out if being a lawyer is what you really want to do. The last thing I have on my list is to take a LSAT class to prep you on the test.

Picking The Best Law School
I have several law schools that I want to go to but even though I want to go there doesn't mean those schools will be the best choice for me. I have to take into account the location of the school, what it is known for, and how much financial aid I will get. I attended a pre-law conference this past semester and was told the location is a critical key in choosing the law school for you. Often time where you ended up going to school at is the same area that you will most likely have to work in. Therefore I have to keep in mind where I plan to live in the future in making my choice of school. Another factor I have to consider is what is the school known for and credentials. What I mean by that is the school known for the field of law that I want to specialize in and how many people graduate with a job.

My Professional Goals
Once I graduate from Prairie View A&M University in the spring of 2014, I plan to go to law school. My choices for law school so far are Howard University School of Law, Baylor University, University of Texas School of Law, and Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law. The specialties of law that I want to study are entertainment law, family law, criminal law, and civil rights law. Once I am done with law school I do not intend on going straight to practicing law but teach as a law professor for a year or two. Then will I want to move on and work at the District Attorney's office either in Houston or Dallas. After several years I hope that I would have moved up to a higher position. If for some reason I'm still a assistant district attorney after ten years, I will go work for a private practice firm until I can build up enough exposure so that I can run for either the state legislature or a position on the Texas Supreme Court.
