Once I graduate from Prairie View A&M University in the spring of 2014, I plan to go to law school. My choices for law school so far are Howard University School of Law, Baylor University, University of Texas School of Law, and Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law. The specialties of law that I want to study are entertainment law, family law, criminal law, and civil rights law. Once I am done with law school I do not intend on going straight to practicing law but teach as a law professor for a year or two. Then will I want to move on and work at the District Attorney's office either in Houston or Dallas. After several years I hope that I would have moved up to a higher position. If for some reason I'm still a assistant district attorney after ten years, I will go work for a private practice firm until I can build up enough exposure so that I can run for either the state legislature or a position on the Texas Supreme Court.
Getting a job as a law school professor is very competitive--you need to be at the top of your class (law review, high-profile clerkship above the state level) or complete an additional graduate degree, especially one that requires major academic writing.
